Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is wanted by La Liga side Sevilla in what could be a very controversial late-window move.

Lo Celso was notable by his absence on Sunday afternoon as he was left out of the Tottenham squad to face Chelsea.

Given that Harvey White and Dane Scarlett made the bench, that decision was pretty damning.

Antonio Conte seems to be done with Lo Celso, who hasn’t really impressed under the Italian this season.

Lo Celso has only started two games for Tottenham under Conte, and his total minutes tally since Conte’s arrival is just 212 minutes.

The 25-year-old is now seemingly surplus to requirements at Tottenham, just two-and-a-half years since Tottenham paid a total of £42million to sign him.

After showing so much quality at Real Betis, Lo Celso just hasn’t managed to translate that success to the Premier League.

Football London now report that Sevilla are showing an interest in signing Lo Celso – but that move would be very controversial.

Lo Celso only spent one season with Betis, but he was a hero there. 16 goals in 45 games was a stunning return from the Argentinian, with Betis fans taking him to their hearts.

Lo Celso was a great earner for Betis, but seeing him come back to Spain with Sevilla would be something of a betrayal.

Betis and Sevilla are bitter rivals, forming one of the most hostile derbies in Spanish football.

Lo Celso knows all about that; he scored for Betis away at Sevilla back in April 2019, though ended on the losing side.

Betis fans probably wouldn’t want to see Lo Celso play for another Spanish team, never mind their Andalusian rivals.

Reuniting with compatriot Erik Lamela may be appealing, but don’t be surprised if Lo Celso thinks twice about a move to Sevilla.

His Tottenham career may be over, but ruining his bond with Betis may sway him away from a move.
