Gary Neville has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur are going to become a ‘real’ threat to the likes of Chelsea and West Ham United in the top four race.
Neville watched on as Tottenham played out an enthralling 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham didn’t quite take full advantage of a number of opportunities to win, but at least they didn’t lose.
In fact, coming back from 2-1 down to grab a point against this Liverpool side is a good result for Antonio Conte.
In five Premier League games, Conte still hasn’t lost as Tottenham boss and continues to show promising signs.
Neville makes Tottenham prediction under Conte
Speaking after Sunday’s game, Neville raved about Tottenham’s progress under Conte and the Italian himself.
Neville called Conte ‘absolutely great’, believing he has completely changed the energy around Tottenham – that’s players and fans.
Neville added that Tottenham have proven that they aren’t finished after question marks under Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Sky Sports pundit even predicted that Tottenham will now be a ‘real’ threat to the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and West Ham United in the race for the top four, believing Sunday’s performance will strike some fear into Premier League rivals.
“He’s an absolutely great manager,” said Neville. “The influence that he’s had on this group in a short period of times, you can see. The energy they’ve got compared to how they were before, the stadium is electric, it was absolutely brilliant in here all the way through the game.”
“You see him on the touchline, the emotion he has when they miss a chance, he’s involved in the game, he cares passionately, he’s desperate to win. I think he’ll be disappointed at the end of the game with the chances that have been missed, because I think he’ll feel he set his team up perfectly, but I think he will also be proud and realise that he’s got a good group of players here.”
“We started to question that over the last 12 to 18 months; were this team over the hill, were they spent under Pochettino, but they’ve shown a performance here today that can tell us they can really be competitive, they can push for that top four.”
“It will maybe strike a little bit of fear into Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, West Ham – this Tottenham team are going to be real in this next four or five months,” he added.
