Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have called on Mauricio Pochettino to bench Eric Dier for Mousa Dembele in tonight’s trip to Manchester United.

Spurs visit Old Trafford in the knowledge that victory would see them go level on points with Liverpool, Chelsea and Watford at the top of the Premier League table.

But it won’t be easy against a wounded Red Devils side who lost at Brighton & Hove Albion last time around.

Dembele was one of Tottenham’s best players during the second half of last season, but the powerful Belgian midfieder hasn’t started for Pochettino yet this term.

Paul Pogba might line up for Jose Mourinho’s side and some fans of the North London club want the 32-year-old to displace Dier in the battle against the World Cup winner.

I would not be disappointed with Sanchez also starting or us having Dier drop back into the back line to allow Jan and Toby to push up. Dembele, Erkisen, and Dele are more than capable of enforcing the midfield.

I also think Dembele will be desperate to start this match as opposed to coming off the bench. He has an ongoing personal rivalry with Pogba. These are the only kind of games (top four or big #UCL matches) that he should start this season.
