Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have expressed an interest in signing Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse this summer.
The 23-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Southampton lost 3-2 to Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Nevertheless, Spurs fans were impressed by what they saw from the star – valued at £20.2 million by CIES, Football Observatory – and suggest that Mauricio Pochettino should sign him this summer.
If Southampton are relegated, which looks increasingly likely, then Ward-Prowse’s value might drop significantly.
The Saints, who are 18th in the Premier League and three points adrift of safety with six games to go, would have to accept a lower amount for all of their stars this summer – including Ward-Prowse, who is however contracted to the club until 2022.
The one-time England international, who has three goals and two assists in 18 Premier League starts this season, has set up seven goalscoring chances for the St Mary’s Stadium club which, for context, is only one less than Son Heung-min.
Pochettino managed him during his time on the South Coast and, speaking to ESPN after his England call-up last year, described him as a “great player”.
