Some supporters have identified Eric Dier as a potential solution.
Dier has played just 12 minutes in the Premier League this season, coming on as a substitute against Southampton.
He had previously featured only in the Carabao Cup against Colchester.
Part of Tottenham’s problem in midweek was Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to play a diamond formation, but without a defined defensive midfielder.
Tanguy Ndombele has shown he is more than that, playing more of a box to box role like Moussa Sissoko, while Harry Winks is far from a ‘destroyer’.
This is the role Dier has previously shone in for Tottenham, but his lack of regular football over the past 12 months suggests he would at the least be rusty.
