Danny Rose returned to action for Tottenham last night against Rochdale after sitting out recent Premier League fixtures.

The 27-year-old is stuck as the club’s second choice left-back behind Ben Davies, a fall from grace for a player previously considered the best left-back in England.

Rose needed a big performance against the League One side to put him in contention to start next week’s Champions League tie against Juventus, but he did not deliver.

In comparison to the Rose Tottenham fans had become used to, something was missing.

There were no bursts forward with the ball running to the byline, and Rose was equally reluctant to cross the ball.

Nor was this a one off. Rose did not look to be fighting for his spot in the way he really should be.

Rose’s problems could relate back to the knee injury he suffered in early 2017; certainly that problem has killed the momentum he was building in his career.

The left-back is struggling to build back up to reach the level he was playing at before, and last night he did not do enough.
