Rafael van der Vaart clearly hasn’t forgotten about his time at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dutch midfielder only spent two years in North London, but still managed to achieve enough at Tottenham to be remembered as a legend.

Van Der Vaart, who joined from Real Madrid in 2010, managed 24 goals in 63 Premier League appearances for Spurs, but also played a huge role in helping the Lilywhites – then under Harry Redknapp – reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2011.

The 35-year-old also managed four goals in four North London derbies against Arsenal, enhancing his reputation among the Tottenham faithful.

On this day – September 1 – eight years ago, Van Der Vaart joined the White Hart Lane side, and was inundated with messages of support from supporters after writing ‘thanks for the memories’.

Spurs were a serious team with Van Der Vaart, who also had Luka Modric and Gareth Bale as team-mates, but they never finished higher than fourth with that trinity of stars.

The Netherlands international, who has 109 caps for his country, is now plying his trade in Denmark with Esbjerg fB, after spells with Midtjylland, Betis and Hamburg in recent years.
