Most Tottenham fans were pretty confused when Mauricio Pochettino signed Paulo Gazzaniga as third choice last summer.

Gazzaniga had a mixed to poor record at Southampton where he was also a back up.

Everything changed exactly 12 months ago when Gazzaniga stepped in during an injury crisis to help Spurs to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The Argentine made a string of saves to keep a clean sheet and help Spurs to a win despite an overall lacklustre performance.

Gazzaniga has not forgotten, sending a message to supporters via Twitter.

Gazzaniga was inundated with positive replies, demonstrating how highly valued he is after a successful run of appearances early this season.

He is now arguably the club’s second choice, having made more of an impression than Michel Vorm this season.

With Hugo Lloris inconsistent, Gazzaniga’s presence is more important at the club than he ever could have imagined when he signed.

He could be in line to feature against PSV in the Champions League this week with Lloris suspended.
