Tottenham Hotspur supporters have praised Jan Vertonghen for his show of passion after the Champions League anthem last night.

Tottenham played in their first ever Champions League semi-final yesterday, in which they were beaten 1-0 by Ajax.

Many Spurs players failed to impress during the match, but Vertonghen’s show of passion beforehand went down well.

The Belgian centre-back slapped the Spurs badge at the end of the Champions League anthem to highlight his desire to help win the contest for his side, and Tottenham fans loved Vertonghen’s commitment.

Vertonghen was actually forced off for Spurs with a head injury which he sustained after colliding with Toby Alderweireld.

When Vertonghen went off Spurs were badly struggling, but they shifted formation following his withdrawal and did improve.

Tottenham did not manage to score though, and their 1-0 defeat to Ajax leaves them with an uphill task to make the final.

Spurs now have to win in Holland next week if they are to progress to the next round.
