Both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United endured difficult nights in the EFL Cup over the past few days.
Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are grateful that their rivals West Ham United took the heat off them by getting knocked out of the EFL Cup by Oxford United last night.
Both London clubs suffered their own respective nightmares on Tuesday and Wednesday. Spurs were beaten on penalties by League Two side Colchester while the Hammers were thrashed 4-0 by League One Oxford.
On Tuesday night, Spurs would have been making the headlines for the wrong reasons, but some of their supporters believe their neighbours have taken the pressure off them by trying to outdo them at the Kassam Stadium.
Both Mauricio Pochettino and Manuel Pellegrini made changes to their starting XI’s heading into their respective ties, with those selected failing to even produce a respectable display.
While changes were made by both, the players that were selected were experienced, from Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama at Tottenham to Jack Wilshere, Pablo Zabaleta and Robert Snodgrass at West Ham.
Either way, Tottenham fans on Twitter think that Pellegrini’s side have potentially now taken more of the limelight for the wrong reasons as they were not just beaten by lower league opposition, they were well and truly thrashed.
Spurs headed into their game on Tuesday on the back of a number of indifferent results, but West Ham were in-form having beaten Manchester United last weekend.
This competition would have been a great opportunity for both to make something of their season, go deep into the tournament and potentially lift some silverware.
