Tottenham Hotspur got back to winning ways in the Premier League on Monday night, beating Burnley 1-0 away at Turf Moor.

Spurs drew 3-3 with West Ham United in their last Premier League game, squandering a 3-0 lead with a shocking late capitulation against their London rivals.

A comfortable Europa League win over LASK helped, but a Monday night trip to face Burnley was never going to be easy – and Spurs had to work hard for their three points.

Spurs were flat going forward for much of the night, but snatched the winner when Harry Kane flicked on a corner, with Son Heung-min heading home the all-important goal.

Jose Mourinho will be delighted with a clean sheet as well as the three points, though the all-round performance from Spurs was short of recent high standards.

Whilst it was a largely underwhelming display, but a couple of players stood out – and experienced defender Toby Alderweireld was one of them.

The Belgian was left wounded by an Ashley Barnes challenge in the first half, but he continued on whilst bandaged up, and helped nullify the physical partnership of Barnes and Chris Wood up front.

Fans took to Twitter to hail Alderweireld, branding him ‘class’ and ‘absolutely outstanding’, picking him out as the man of the match.

Others added that Alderweireld looked like the player from three years ago, believing he rolled back the years and was ‘back to his best’ last night.
