Tottenham Hotspur were left heartbroken at Anfield on Wednesday night as they lost 2-1 away to Liverpool.

With Chelsea and Manchester City failing to win on Tuesday night, this top of the table clash took on even greater importance, with Jose Mourinho looking to spring a shock at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah put Liverpool in front though, as his deflected strike looped over Hugo Lloris and into the net, only for Son Heung-min to race clear and score yet again for Spurs.

Tottenham had their chances to win it; Steven Bergwijn put one wide before hitting the post, and Harry Kane headed a Son corner over the bar before Liverpool made them pay.

Roberto Firmino headed home a late winner, giving Liverpool all three points and leaving Spurs gutted as their valiant defending counted for nothing in the end.

There were a number of impressive displays in the Spurs side though, and right back Serge Aurier can be very proud of his display up against Sadio Mane.

Save for one instance in the second half where Mane managed to turn the Ivorian, Aurier was superb throughout, showing great defensive work rather than the attacking play more commonly associated with him.

Spurs fans took to Twitter to hail Aurier, claiming that Mourinho has worked miracles with him having turned him into a solid defender this season.

Others called Aurier amazing and absolutely magnificent, feeling that he had Mane in his pocket all night having come on leaps and bounds under Mourinho.
