Few Tottenham Hotspur players have divided the fanbase like Erik Lamela in recent years.

Some supporters are huge fans of the Argentine’s work ethic and off-the-ball pressing which makes him as a dream for Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Others, however, feel that the former Roma winger could be a bit more productive, having only scored eight goals in 96 Premier League games since his £30 million move from Italy in 2013.

And with rumours of him leaving North London before next Wednesday’s transfer deadline, the reaction on social media was always going to be mixed.

According to Italian publication La Roma 24, Tottenham have offered Roma the chance to re-sign their former star this month, with a Spurs official reportedly meeting delegates at the Serie A club this week to thrash out a deal.

Here is some of the reaction to the story.

This one seems unlikely to materialise for two reasons.

Although Lamela is only recently back from a year-long absence with a hip injury, Pochettino is clearly a big fan of his compatriot. In addition to that, selling him might not give the Lilywhites enough time to sign a worthy replacement, so he will probably end up staying in North London beyond this window.
