Tottenham Hotspur are due to take Arsenal on Sunday, but Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly set to name a team without a recognised right-back.
Tottenham are seriously short on right-back options, as both Juan Foyth and Kyle Walker-Peters are out injured.
Aurier looks the most natural replacement for Walker-Peters in Tottenham’s squad, but he could be sold.
As a result Pochettino may reportedly opt to go with Moussa Sissoko or Eric Dier at right-back, despite it not being their natural position.
And the decision not to pick Aurier has not gone down well with Spurs well.
Even if Aurier was promoted to Spurs’s starting line-up it would not be guaranteed to be a successful choice.
Ever since Aurier arrived at Spurs he has been rather haphazard in his defensive work, and he has failed to nail down a place in their starting line-up.
Dier has played at right-back before for Tottenham, but the bulk of his experience came when he very first arrived at the club.
Sissoko, meanwhile, is very much a central midfielder – but often is tasked with covering at right-back in his usual defensive duties, so may be able to perform in the role on a temporary basis.
