Spanish media reported this week that Gareth Bale would be willing to re-join Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur fans are liking the prospect of seeing Gareth Bale return to North London, even if a lot of them can’t see it materialising.
Bale left Tottenham for Real Madrid for a then-world record fee of around £85 million in 2013 and has since won three Champions League titles with the Spanish giants.
But rumours of a return to Spurs are never far away and The Daily Star claimed last month that Madrid were plotting to include the Wales star in a player-plus-cash deal if Harry Kane moved to the Spanish capital.
The trail went cold on that one, but Diario Gol reported this week that the 28-year-old, who has six goals in seven Primera Division starts this season, would be more than willing to re-sign for the Lilywhites, who would love to have him back according to the Spanish report.
And suffice to say that plenty of Tottenham fans would also welcome him back with open arms – even if it seems unlikely.
The former Southampton gem, who joined Spurs in 2007, scored 26 goals in his last season in North London to reaffirm his status as one of the world’s great players and, despite being five years older, of course fans are going to be excited about the idea of him coming back.
But you can understand why supporters are treating the rumour with a degree of skepticism.
For one thing, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would either have to convince him to take a significant wage cut, or smash the club’s existing wage structure to get him back, and neither seems probable at this moment in time.
