Tottenham Hotspur fans saw Tanguy Ndombele make an impact from the bench on Sunday, but Mauricio Pochettino seemingly didn’t view his performance in the same light.

Spurs had taken an early lead at Liverpool through Harry Kane, but ended up trailing 2-1 to goals from Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah.

Spurs had brought on midfielder Ndombele 12 minutes before Salah’s winner, but the Frenchman really seemed to impress in the final stages as Tottenham chased an equaliser.

Ndombele – the club’s record signing from Lyon this summer – was positive with his passing and was willing to get on the ball to try and create something when the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli had disappointed.

Spurs fans were impressed with Ndombele’s impact, but boss Pochettino didn’t seem quite so enthralled after the final whistle, questioning just what Ndombele did to impact the game.

Pochettino did continue by suggesting that the game was different when Ndombele impressed, as Spurs were chasing an equaliser rather than trying to hold on to a draw, and that his passing was ‘good’ but ‘normal’.

His comments seemed surprising as he appeared to shrug off the idea of him making a big difference, and Spurs fans haven’t been to impressed with the Argentinian’s view.

Fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that Pochettino has ‘lost the plot’ with such comments, branding them ‘a joke’, ‘plain stupid’ and ‘madness’, and feel that he’s only playing down Ndombele’s impact because he has to defend his own decision to leave him out of the starting line-up.
