Tottenham Hotspur may find it difficult to spend this summer, with the global pandemic impacting their budget ahead of the transfer window.

Jose Mourinho will have to be clever in the transfer market, with loans, free agents and swap deals surely on Tottenham’s radar for that reason.

Still, Spurs are being linked with cash signings anyway. For instance, The Sunday Mirror (28/06, p68) reported that Tottenham are keen on Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez.

It’s claimed that there is a £22.5million release clause in Vazquez’s deal, but they may be willing to sell for even cheaper in order to move him on.

Real seemingly want rid of the 28-year-old, who came up through their ranks. He has managed more than 200 appearances for Real, but is a bit-part player these days.

Vazquez was coming through the ranks during Mourinho’s time as Real manager, and the Spurs boss may just remember him from that time.

However, Spurs already have the likes of Steven Bergwijn, Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela and Ryan Sessegnon, so adding another winger hasn’t impressed some fans.

Some believe that a winger is the last thing Tottenham need, and think that the money should be used in other areas.

Others compared Vazquez to Roberto Soldado in terms of being a Spanish player who just doesn’t improve the squad nor bring potential resale value, begging the club not to sign him.
