18 months ago the prospect of Danny Rose being injured felt like it would really affect the Tottenham team.

Now fans have become so used to Rose being out that it does not feel like a big deal.

Instead the biggest loser is the player, with Rose’s personal ambition of a big pay day at risk as well as his chances of making the World Cup squad.

Rose has been ruled out of this weekend’s match with Manchester City, suffering a calf injury, the club have confirmed.

Injuries and the good form of Ben Davies have restricted Rose to only seven Premier League starts this season.

One of these came a week ago against Stoke City, and prior to that, his previous game was almost a whole month earlier against Bournemouth.

This is the problem for Rose, that his appearances have been so stop-start, and this has in turn affected his form – making Spurs less than enthusiastic about starting him every week. It’s a vicious cycle, which won’t be broken until he can stay fit.

Ben Davies may well have got the nod against Manchester City anyway this weekend, as he has so often in the ‘big games’ this season.

At the same time it is further frustration for the England defender, who is running out of time to prove himself this season.

Here is a look at how Tottenham fans reacted on Twitter to his injury…
