Kieran Trippier struggled for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Very few Tottenham Hotspur players emerged with any credit from Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Newport County.
Tottenham’s hopes of winning the FA Cup were preserved by Harry Kane, who scored an 82nd-minute equaliser at Rodney Parade to spare Spurs’ blushes.
For a long time it looked like a giant killing was on the cards for the League Two outfit, but Kane, who started, pounced in the final eight minutes to ensure that the minnows head to Wembley for a fourth-round replay.
Aside from the 24-year-old, there were plenty of Spurs players who didn’t do much to help the cause and fans have identified at least one of those perceived culprits: Kieran Trippier.
The 27-year-old was chosen by Mauricio Pochettino to be one of Kyle Walker’s replacements in North London, along with Serge Aurier, but performances like that offer a big reminder as to how far away he is from emulating his former team-mate.
Defensively and offensively, Trippier was found wanting and failed to deliver many, if any, good crosses into Tottenham’s two-man attack of Kane and Fernando Llorente.
