Tottenham Hotspur signed one holding midfielder over the summer, but they are already being linked with a surprise move for another one.

Spurs brought in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton in a deal that saw Kyle Walker-Peters head in the opposite direction, and he has been excellent in recent games.

Harry Winks isn’t exactly a fan favourite right now though, and if Spurs are to move him on and look to replace him, they will surely need to make it a homegrown signing.

Oliver Skipp could take over, but The Mirror report that Tottenham now want to sign Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips in a deal that could cost around £20million.

The report claims that Liverpool want Phillips too, and both they and Spurs are prepared to double the £30,000-a-week wages Phillips currently earns at Elland Road.

It seems unlikely that Phillips will be leaving Leeds any time soon given his affinity for the club, but Tottenham’s interest just goes to show how impressive Phillips has been in the Premier League.

Tottenham fans have been taking to Twitter in order to react to these rumours, with many believing that he would easily replace Winks and even end his Tottenham career.

Others think Phillips would be an ‘incredible’ signing as Phillips is a ‘quality player’, which he has shown in the Premier League and now with England.
