Rangers defender James Tavernier has been a star man in recent times, taking his game to another level under Steven Gerrard.

The Gers signed Tavernier from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2015, and he has been a mainstay ever since.

The 29-year-old has been sensational this season, bagging 16 goals and 11 assists in just 25 games across all competitions.

Tavernier’s attacking record is staggering; 62 goals and 85 assists in 268 games for Rangers, proving himself as an attacking threat from set pieces and in open play.

It’s unsurprising that Tavernier is now attracting interest, and the Daily Mail report that Tottenham Hotspur have considered signing him.

Jose Mourinho does have Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty at right back, but with Aurier’s contract expiring in 2022, Spurs may be looking for possible target in case the Ivorian wants to leave.

Tavernier’s attacking ability certainly makes him appealing, but Spurs fans seem to be split on the idea of him heading to North London in the near future.

Some think that Tavernier is ‘class’ and would be a ‘great signing’, urging Daniel Levy to get a deal done.

Others think that Tavernier is ‘bang average’ and already too old for Spurs at 29, preferring not to sign him given that Spurs already have Aurier and Doherty.
