Tottenham Hotspur had a strong summer transfer window, but it now seems that Gedson Fernandes will be the man to feel the impact of it.

Tanguy Ndombele stayed put despite rampant rumours about an exit, whilst Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg came in to bolster Jose Mourinho’s holding midfield options.

Add in that Matt Doherty has joined at right back and Serge Aurier has stayed put, and it’s hard to see just where Fernandes will break into the side.

Predominantly a midfield player, Fernandes did play at right back in pre-season, but it now looks like he could be on the move in the January window.

A Bola report that Benfica and Spurs are exploring the option of his loan move being terminated in January, having been left out of Tottenham’s Europa League squad.

The 21-year-old has made just one appearance this season, and that came in the Carabao Cup, so the chances of his €50million (£46million) permanent option being activated seem slim.

Tottenham fans have now been taking to Twitter to react to the rumours, with many believing that letting Fernandes go the right thing to do.

Some believe that he ‘offers nothing’ and just isn’t ready for Premier League action right now, whilst others feel for him because he is wasting time sitting on the sidelines at Tottenham and ultimately needs to move on.
