Tottenham Hotspur beat Ipswich Town 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in their first pre-season game of the summer.

Spurs took on the League One side at home, and ran riot in the first half with early goals from Ryan Sessegnon and Son Heung-min.

Son added a third before the break, and with wholesale changes from half time onwards, the game petered out into a 3-0 win for Spurs.

Jose Mourinho will be pleased with the run-out, especially as Joe Hart and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg made their debuts, and he made one interesting decision.

Mourinho gave a start to Gedson Fernandes on Saturday, but rather than play him in midfield, Mourinho deployed him as a right back.

Gedson is on loan from Benfica with an option of a £40million permanent deal next summer, and breaking into Tottenham’s midfield seems a difficult ask.

The 21-year-old needs playing time in order to justify that fee, and with Spurs struggling at right back, he has been given a chance to impress.

Spurs fans seemed to like what they saw, and whilst it was only one pre-season game against a League One side, supporters felt that Gedson looked ‘lively’, ‘class’ and ‘very promising’, suggesting that he could emerge in that position this season.
