Tottenham Hotspur went top of the Premier League this afternoon as they beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at The Hawthorns.

Spurs knew three points would send them to the summit ahead of Leicester City and Liverpool being in action later in the day, but it was far from vintage Tottenham.

They struggled to get going in the first half, and had to wait until the dying embers of the games to snatch all three points.

Harry Kane flicked home a header from Matt Doherty’s 88th minute cross to steal all three points for Tottenham, in a win reminiscent of the 1-0 win at Burnley last month.

Jose Mourinho will be delighted with the clean sheet, and one of the key performers in Tottenham’s back line was Eric Dier.

Previously a holding midfielder under Mauricio Pochettino, Dier has been played almost exclusively as a centre back under Mourinho, with decent results.

Tottenham fans picked out Dier as their star performer today, praising him for a vital goal-line clearance and an all-round solid performance.

Some branded him ‘massive’, ‘absolutely outstanding’ and ‘immense’, believing that he doesn’t get the credit he deserves and has proved some doubters wrong.
