Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be in the market for a new centre back this summer, and a number of names have been suggested.
The latest name touted is Diego Llorente. Spanish newspaper AS report that Tottenham are interested in the Real Sociedad star, but so are Liverpool and West Ham United.
The report notes that Llorente has a €50million (£44million) release clause in his contract, but Sociedad may be forced to sell for much cheaper due to the global pandemic.
That may just give Tottenham a real chance of a bargain move. The 26-year-old defender was once on the books at Real Madrid, and was progressing through the ranks during Jose Mourinho’s time at the club.
Mourinho may well know plenty about Llorente, and he has become a fine player away from Madrid. Loan spells with Rayo Vallecano and Malaga resulted in a move to Sociedad, where he has been a steady performer.
Now 26, Llorente may be ready for a big move. He isn’t the most physically imposing defender at 6ft 1in tall, but he is quick and adept on the ball – attributes Spurs may look for with Jan Vertonghen leaving the club this summer.
Spurs fans have been reacting on Twitter, praising Llorente as ‘very good’ whilst feeling that he is a ‘bargain’ if available for much cheaper than his release clause.
Others believe Llorente would be a ‘cracking’ signing and a ‘great bit of business’, hoping that Daniel Levy doesn’t stand in the way of a deal.
