Tottenham defender Sanchez featured for Colombia in their opening World Cup Group H match against Japan on Monday afternoon.
The 22-year-old central defender started the game and played for the entire 90 minutes, as Colombia lost 2-1.
The former Ajax youngster is one of the best young centre-backs in Europe, but his mistake led to Japan’s opening goal.
Although Sanchez recovered from that early mistake and improved as the game went on, there was a bit of shakiness about him throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Sanchez is a key figure at Tottenham and established himself in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team this past season, making 29 starts in the Premier League and playing in eight Champions League matches.
