Tottenham Hotspur fans are baffled over Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to include Danny Rose for the Champions League trip to Real Madrid tomorrow.

The 27-year-old defender hasn’t kicked a ball for Tottenham since January but he was pictured boarding the plane to Madrid earlier on Monday.

Photographs from Rose’s return to training emerged last week in which the left-back was looking slightly heavier than when Spurs fans had last seen him.

And supporters of the North London clubs have questioned whether or not he is fit enough and slim enough to be included in the squad at Real tomorrow

Danny Rose of Tottenham Hotspur warms up prior to the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea at White Hart Lane on January 4, 2017 in London, England.

Pochettino has something of a dilemma at left-back or left wing-back, with Ben Davies out injured, so the Argentine boss may be trying to hedge his bets a little.

Jan Vertonghen did a decent job at left-back against Bournemouth, though Real Madrid away is a different kettle of fish. Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters – both right-backs by trade – are also options for the ex-Southampton boss.

It would be a major surprise if Rose were to be included in the squad.
