Tottenham Hotspur loanee faces a tough battle to win another Europa League medal.
Roma’s Federico Fazio celebrates scoring
The only Tottenham Hotspur player to win a major medal in club football over the past year is Argentine defender Federico Fazio.
Fazio lifted the Europa League last season while on loan at Sevilla, and is battling to do the same on loan at Roma this season.
Last night his hopes took a dent, with Roma beaten 4-2 away at Lyon.
Fazio did his bit for the Serie A side, setting up one goal and scoring another – an impressive contribution from the centre-back.
The four goals conceded was a knock against Fazio’s performance, but he has been doing well this season for Roma and appears settled at the club.
Barcelona’s magical comeback against PSG this week will help give Roma belief they can overturn their deficit, especially with two away goals in the bag, thanks to Fazio.
Once again he has gone deeper in the Europa League than Tottenham did, with the North London side eliminated in the last round by Gent.
Fazio won eight aerial duels and made 13 clearances, but Roma were outdone by the excellent Alexandre Lacazette, who scored one and created another.
The centre-back’s performances continue to bemuse Tottenham fans, who commented on Twitter after he made it onto the scoresheet…
