Tottenham Hotspur midfielder kept his place despite Eric Dier’s return.

After a bright start to the season, there were signs at the weekend that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama’s form was beginning to fade.

With Eric Dier pushing for a return after being an unused substitute at the weekend, an injury to Mousa Dembele meant that head coach Mauricio Pochettino did not have to choose between the two, but could pick both Dier and Wanyama.

After a poor first half which showed little improvement on his performance at Old Trafford, Wanyama improved in the second and even got onto the scoresheet.

The result rarely looked in doubt for Spurs, with Christian Eriksen bagging a goal in each half for the home side. Wanyama added a third, prodding home a rebound from an Eriksen free-kick.

Wanyama was heavily involved throughout the game, and actually created three chances before his goal.

He managed 91 touches and completed 87 per cent of his passes during the contest.

While he did not win a single tackle, and made just two interceptions, this could be put down in part to Hull’s lack of attacking threat during the contest.

Not all supporters were convinced by his performance though, even offering their surprise that he was on the scoresheet…
