Tottenham Hotspur smashed Southampton on Wednesday, and Spurs fans praised one man in particular.

Tottenham Hotspur moved back to within a point of fourth-placed Arsenal with a 4-1 win away to Southampton on Wednesday night.

Virgil van Dijk helped the Saints into the lead after just two minutes but Dele Alli levelled up to ensure it was 1-1 at the break.

It was all Tottenham before and after the half-time whistle, and they got their just deserts on 52 minutes when Harry Kane headed home a second past Fraser Forster.

It could and should have been 3-1 six minutes later but Kane sent a penalty over the crossbar after Nathan Redmond was given a straight red card.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side tried and failed to kill the game off, but their patience was rewarded in the final five minutes when Son Heung-min and another from Alli put the gloss on a pretty professional display from Spurs.

Alli, in particular, might get the headlines, and Kane to a lesser extent, but Tottenham fans were raving about Victor Wanyama’s performance on Twitter afterwards.

The Kenyan was superb on what was his first return to St Mary’s following a £12 million exit in the summer, and Lilywhites supporters singled him out for praise.
