Liverpool enjoyed a dream Wednesday evening as they hammered Manchester City 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash.

The Reds raced into a 3-0 lead inside 31 minutes, as Mohamed Salah smashed home from close range after Kyle Walker hesitated on the ball inside his own box, before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain smashed home a long-range thunderbolt.

Salah crossed for Sadio Mane to head home a third for the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp’s men are now hot favourites to advance into the semi-finals ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

If there was one issue to come out of the game for Liverpool, it’s that star forward Salah was substituted on 53 minutes with an injury, with the Reds now assessing the Egyptian’s groin issue.

Salah, 25, has starred this season and leads the Premier League scoring charts with 29 goals in just 31 games, which has put him in the box seat for the Golden Boot.

However, Tottenham striker Harry Kane is in second place on 24 goals, and the England international is now back from injury himself, meaning he will now look to close the gap and pursue a third straight Golden Boot.

Spurs fans took to Twitter to suggest that Kane’s pursuit of the Golden Boot is now back on after Salah’s injury, and predict that he will now win the award once again, and will go a long way to closing the gap against Stoke City this weekend.
