Tottenham appear to have missed out on talented left-back… for now.

Ryan Sessegnon has committed his future to Fulham by signing a three year deal with the club, it was announced on their official website.

The talented young left-back is just 17 and turned heads with his outstanding debut season in the Championship, which included scoring an impressive brace against Newcastle.

Sessegnon had been strongly linked with Tottenham Hotspur, with The Sun reporting earlier this summer they were set to see off competition from Liverpool for his signature.

Of course Sessegnon could still be sold, Fulham tying him down to a deal merely puts them in control of his destination and they can choose the fee, rather than losing him on a free and having to wait for money via a tribunal.

Yet Sessegnon does not sound like this is in his plans, telling Fulham’s website: “I’m excited to see what’s in front of me at this club, hopefully we can all push on now. Last year I got a lot of opportunities from the gaffer, and I just want to continue that.”

For Tottenham it is a disappointment rather than a crushing blow, with Sessegnon’s chances likely to be limited next season anyway.

Spurs already have England and Wales internationals Danny Rose and Ben Davies available to play at the position, and could simply return for Sessegnon in the future when it is time to replace them.

If he continues progressing at his current rate, it could be very costly.
