Once regarded as one of Tottenham Hotspur’s brightest prospects, Nathan Oduwa has had a disappointing past 12 months.
A year ago his loan deal at Rangers was terminated early without real explanation, and he was sent out on loan to Colchester United.

This season he has been at Peterborough United but he was unable to establish himself as a starter and has returned to Spurs.

Last night he surely put himself back on the radar of a few teams after a dazzling display for Tottenham’s under-23 team.
He scored one and provided two assists in a win against Southampton, with all three goals coming in the first half.

Oduwa, 20, is out of contract at the end of the season and his career will come to a crossroads. It is unclear if Tottenham plan to retain him, but last night’s display showed there might just be a chance he could still come good.
His direct running and willingness to take on and trick opponents is what Tottenham have been looking for in their first team of late, leading to speculation they could make a deadline day move for Wilfried Zaha.

His dynamism and unpredictability is everything Moussa Sissoko is not, and while Oduwa is a long way from being the finished product, he won himself a few fans last night.
Whether it leads to another loan deal today, a call up to Tottenham’s senior squad, or fizzles out to nothing remains to be seen but last night has given Oduwa a platform from which to relaunch, and should inspire confidence.
