Nabil Bentaleb has criticised Tottenham Hotspur’s supporters, since moving to Schalke.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have reacted furiously to Nabil Bentaleb’s comments about them to SportBILD (as quoted by ESPN).

Bentaleb left Spurs to join Schalke during the summer transfer window, after failing to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up.

However, after Tottenham’s impressive opening to the season, the Algerian international was asked whether he regretted opting to move to Schalke rather than staying to fight for his place.

Bentaleb’s response was telling, as he criticised the Lilywhites’ supporters and stated that Tottenham didn’t have faith in him.

“Even if Tottenham were on top of the league, I would not regret my transfer,” the youngster explained. “They believe in me at Schalke. I made this decision, and a few defeats won’t change anything. We worked hard enough, in every match, in every training session. But we’ve made mistakes, and we need to cut them out.

“But we fight and I believe that’s also the reason that the fans support us. I don’t know that from England. If you lose there, nobody supports you in the stadium.”

Tottenham supporters are appalled by Bentaleb’s attitude, and have suggested that he should have remained more loyal to the club which developed him.

It is hard to see Bentaleb having much of a future at Spurs, after making these comments.

The central midfielder has shown flashes of quality, but he has progressively slipped down the pecking order at Tottenham and these comments won’t have helped him move any closer to breaking back into Pochettino’s thinking.
