Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini celebrates scoring their second goal with team mates
Manolo Gabbiadini showed why he is arguably the best January transfer buy of the season with a superb two goal performance at Wembley for Southampton.
His brace gave Manchester United a scare in the EFL Cup Final which they eventually won 3-2, and had Saints fans crowing, and rival supporters frustrated.
Tottenham Hotspur were a side linked with Gabbiadini’s signature last season, Italian TV station Sport Mediaset reported.
Instead they made a more costly move for Vincent Janssen, which has fared terribly – with the striker seemingly having lost the faith of head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
He has failed to score in open play this season and was left out of their squad for the Europa League tie against Gent, and barely gets more than a handful of minutes a game from the bench whatever the circumstances.
Gabbiadini meanwhile has seized his opportunity and wasted no time in adapting to the English game.
