Trippier helped Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-0 win at Wembley on Wednesday.

The prospect of the right-back coming up against Manchester United’s new £500,000-a-week acquisition Alexis Sanchez on Wednesday, therefore, would have had a few nerves jangling ahead of the game.
However, Trippier’s role in Tottenham’s – it has to be said, comfortable – 2-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s team, appears to have got him back onside with the Spurs faithful.

No player had more touches of the ball at Wembley than the 27-year-old – a former trainee with United’s rivals Manchester City, of course – and he certainly made that count, providing the cross from which Phil Jones doubled Tottenham’s advantage with a 28th-minute own goal.
Spurs fans have since taken to Twitter to discuss Trippier’s performance, with many quick to apologise for their previous comments about the player…
Christian Eriksen gave Tottenham the lead inside 11 seconds, with Jones’ own goal allowing Mauricio Pochettino’s team to close the gap to two points on fourth-placed Chelsea.
