The summer transfer window is still a couple of months away, but Tottenham Hotspur are already being linked with moves to bring in new signings at the end of the season.

Spurs are closing in on another top four finish this season, but they have concerns over the future of star defender Toby Alderweireld ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Belgian is yet to sign a new contract, and given that he has a £25million release clause in his contract which can be activated in the summer of 2019, Spurs may cash in this summer.

West Bromwich Albion Football Club player Jonny Evans attends a press conference in Hong Kong on July 18, 2017, ahead of the 2017 Premier League Asia Trophy being played on July 19 and 22.

Alderweireld has been a key part of the Tottenham defence under Mauricio Pochettino, featuring prominently alongside Jan Vertonghen – but that partnership could now be broken up.

Spurs would need a replacement for the 29-year-old, and The Telegraph report that Spurs have identified West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans as one potential target.

The Northern Irishman has impressed for the Baggies since his 2015 move from Manchester United, but is set for relegation to the Championship given that West Brom sit bottom of the Premier League table.

Evans has a £3million release clause in his contract upon relegation, meaning Spurs are sensing a bargain – but fans are far from impressed with the latest rumour.

Fans took to Twitter to slam chairman Daniel Levy for attempting to push Alderweireld out of the club whilst lining up a bargain basement signing to replace him, suggesting it’s ‘standard Levy’.

Others pointed to Evans’ Premier League title wins with Manchester United and suggested he could be a smart addition, whilst one fan claimed Leicester City’s Harry Maguire would be a better addition than Evans if Spurs are looking to replace Alderweireld.
