Tottenham Hotspur have suffered another injury scare with Jan Vertonghen missing last night’s Belgium friendly with Mexico.

SkySports reported Vertonghen had picked up an ankle problem and national manager Roberto Martinez decided not to risk him.

These include Vertonghen’s club and national teammate Toby Alderweireld, who sustained a hamstring injury in the win against Real Madrid and did not feature in Belgium’s squad.

SkySports report Vertonghen is still in contention to play for Belgium against Japan next week, which on the face of it is a positive sign that his injury is not serious.

But this could backfire if he suffers a setback, and Tottenham fans would prefer if he just returned to Hotspur Way immediately.
