After peaking last Autumn with impressive displays for Tottenham against Real Madrid and for England, midfielder Harry Winks has had a frustrating few weeks.

A persistent ankle injury has restricted him to just six minutes of action since the defeat to Manchester City in mid-December.

Now The Mail report a further setback for the 20-year-old, reporting he will be out for another fortnight.

This will mean at a minimum he will miss the league clash against Southampton, as well as the FA Cup match against Newport.

Perhaps of more concern is that this leaves just a fortnight before Tottenham’s Champions League last 16 first leg against Juventus, a match which they need Winks to be in peak physical condition and match sharp if he is to start.

A two week injury does not sound so bad, but Tottenham players have not stuck to their injury timelines over the past year.

Erik Lamela missed 12 months of action with a hip injury which was only supposed to keep him out for three months, and Danny Rose was out for nine months instead of just a couple with a knee injury.

Victor Wanyama also missed four months of action when he was originally tipped to be back after two, and Toby Alderweireld’s hamstring injury turned into a three month absence after initial reports suggested he hoped to be back within a month.

Tottenham fans hope Harry Winks will make a swift return, but there is understandable worry.
