Spurs ran out 3-1 winners over the Russian side, but Dier struggled at centre-back for portions of the game.
The England international has been forced to step into defence to cover for Toby Alderweireld, and his form has suffered as a result.
Dier has been brilliant for Spurs in the defensive midfield role, but there are times when he has looked vulnerable in the heart of the defence.
And the 22-year-old was caught out by CSKA for their first goal last night.
Dier didn’t track the run of Alan Dzagoev, who went on to finish well from close range.
That strike put CSKA in the lead, but Tottenham were able to come back and claim a comfortable victory in the end.
Spurs won 3-1 to ensure that they claimed third place in their Champions League group, but supporters of Mauricio Pochettino’s side had not forgotten about Dier’s error at full-time.
