Dier has missed a lot of football over the past three months with appendicitis and tonsillitis, including the weekend’s North London derby.
Last night it was like he had never been away, as he slotted straight into midfield and helped Tottenham to protect their clean sheet.
The game was ideally set up for Dier, with Spurs protecting a lead rather than chasing a comeback.

Tottenham won the away tie 1-0, winning 4-0 on aggregate to reach the quarter-finals.
Winks suffering an injury was an obvious concern, but Dier’s return helped cushion the blow.
