Denmark were once again indebted to talisman Christian Eriksen as the Spurs star inspired a World Cup qualification victory over Montenegro.

While England toiled and stuttered their way past Slovenia to seal a World Cup place in perhaps the least promising manner possible, Christian Eriksen lit up Denmark’s latest qualifying victory over Montenegro with a goal of trademark class and composure.
A sweet strike from outside the area, the Tottenham Hotspur playmaker has now scored in five straight games for his country – the first player to achieve the feat since legendary striker Jon Dahl Tomasson in 2008.
The Danes are currently second in Group B, three points clear of Thursday’s opponents Montenegro with just one game to spare in the qualifying campaign. If the Scandinavians do indeed earn entry for world football’s biggest party for the first time since 2010, they will know exactly who to thank.

And Spurs team-mate Harry Kane could only wish that he could flank the increasingly influential Eriksen for country as well as club.
After all, England could certainly do with a midfielder with Eriksen’s productivity and razer-sharp finishing from outside the area. Another dull 90 minutes at Wembley, only broken by a stoppage-time Kane tap-in, made that very clear.
While The Three Lions will be hoping to roar rather than whimper in Russia next summer, Denmark have every reason to believe they can join Gareth Southgate’s side with Eriksen in such stunning form.
