Tottenham midfielder is no closer to signing a new contract.
Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to be able to agree a new contract with Christian Eriksen in the near future, report The Times.
Eriksen’s deal expires in 2020, and unlike Dele Alli who recently signed a new extension until 2024, Eriksen is said to be comfortable letting his deal run down.
Eriksen earns £75,000 per week, a low rate compared to some of his teammates, including now Alli.
Yet Eriksen is said to prefer holding the power when it comes to his contract, much to the frustration of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
Levy is said to be concerned at Eriksen’s stance, fearing more players could follow the Dane’s approach.
The report references Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, who forced the club to cash in this summer as his contract expired 12 months later.
Tottenham will be in the same position with Eriksen next summer, having to decide whether to sell, or allow him to enter the final year of his deal and risk him leaving for free a year later.
