Tottenham Hotspur fans have praised Ben Davies for fronting up, after their humiliating defeat against Colchester United in the League Cup.

Spurs were dumped out of the cup competition in midweek, as they were beaten on penalties by their lower league opponents.

Tottenham’s performance in the contest was awful, with most their squad playing below par.

And Davies was keen to say sorry to the Tottenham fans who had travelled after the game in the press.

“We just have to apologise to the supporters, too. We let them down. They travel with us everywhere and they’re first-class. We need everyone behind us now to help us push on through this difficult time,” he said to the London Evening Standard.

Few Spurs players came out of the game with any credit, but it seems that Davies’s words have earned him some praise.

There are now some Spurs fans suggesting that he should start over Danny Rose, as he has shown a better attitude than the England international this term.

Tottenham’s next match comes against Southampton, when they will be under huge pressure to pick up the three points.
