Tottenham Hotspur have sold midfielder Tom Carroll to Swansea City.

Tottenham Hotspur this evening confirmed on their official website that midfielder Tom Carroll has left the club in order to join Premier League rivals Swansea City.

Carroll, 24, has come up through the ranks at White Hart Lane having joined the club as a teenager, but spent four loan spells away from the club with Leyton Orient, Derby County, Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City.

Last term, the diminutive midfielder scored three times in 27 appearances for Tottenham, but the arrival of Victor Wanyama and the emergence of youngster Harry Winks have seen Carroll slip down the Tottenham pecking order.

The midfielder has played just one minute of Premier League action this season, and made only three appearances in all competitions before leaving the club in search of first-team football this afternoon.

Spurs confirmed on their official website that Carroll has signed for former loan club Swansea City, with BBC Sport reporting that the fee involved is around £4.5million.

With Carroll’s lengthy association with Spurs now over, Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter today in order to give their reactions to the midfielder’s exit.

Many wished Carroll the best of luck, suggesting that whilst he had great promise coming up through the ranks at White Hart Lane, he ultimately didn’t live up to his potential with the club.

Others took great joy in the £4.5million fee, hailing chairman Daniel Levy for another great deal and noting that the club remarkably paid a similar fee to sign Dele Alli from Milton Keynes Dons in 2015.
