Tottenham fans are incredulous at Arsenal playmaker’s bumper pay rise.

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil signed a new contract at Arsenal yesterday – and earned a huge pay rise in the process.
He becomes Arsenal’s highest earner and will be under real pressure to perform consistently – a criticism which has dogged his spell at The Emirates since signing in 2013.

While his new show of commitment was lauded by Arsenal supporters, on the other side of North London, Tottenham fans expressed their bemusement.
Spurs have built their team on a very different model, with highest earner Harry Kane on less than a third of Ozil’s salary, at £100,000 a week.

Christian Eriksen signed for Spurs in the same summer Ozil joined Arsenal and is earning just £70,000 a week – a snippet of Ozil’s new weekly wage.
Eriksen has seven goals and six assists this season in the Premier League, compared to four goals and seven assists from Ozil.
The Dane is real value for money, and Tottenham fans believe he should be in for a huge pay rise of his own if chairman Daniel Levy would relax the club’s wage structure.
Here is a look at how Spurs fans reacted to Ozil’s new deal…
