Tottenham Hotspur fans have praised Mauricio Pochettino for his refusal to ‘buy trophies’.
Spurs may be under pressure to deliver silverware, but Pochettino insisted at his press conference yesterday that he would not give up his principles.
He said: “We’re not going to buy trophies, we’re going to deserve trophies. The players are so happy. The worst thing in life is to compare [yourself] with others. We need to compare with ourselves. The players, they feel [and should be] proud about all they’re doing.”
Spurs fans have praised Pochettino’s stance, even though it may suggest that they do not have plans to spend big over the summer.
Tottenham have indeed made vast progress over recent years, with Pochettino making them a real force.
However, Pochettino still has not won a trophy, and that is the one question mark which lingers over his managerial ability.
Spurs’ only remaining hope of silverware this season comes in the FA Cup.
Tottenham have made it through to the quarter-finals of the competition, and they take on Swansea City this weekend looking to book their place in the final four.
