Tottenham Hotspur are said to be battling Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham United side for striker Maxi Gomez.

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left in hysterics after reports that top West Ham United target Maxi Gomez is waiting to see if Mauricio Pochettino’s side will come in for him.
The striker, who has a £43.5 million release clause (London Evening Standard), has been tentatively linked to Spurs, and Gomes is reportedly waiting patiently to see if the Lilywhites will step up their bid.
Tottenham fans have found the funny side in the rumours, and some have suggested that Gomez should be signed off the back of them.
If Gomez was to arrive at Tottenham he would provide some useful back-up to Harry Kane.
Spurs may need to find a covering option for Kane, as Fernando Llorente is set to leave White Hart Lane when his contract expires.
Gomez is considerably younger than Llorente, at the age of 22, and would therefore arguably be a preferable option to the former Swansea City man for Tottenham.
West Ham do appear to be more keen on the powerful forward at this stage though, so it remains to be seen whether Spurs will make an offer.
