The former Tottenham Hotspur star was available for free in the summer.

Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have questioned Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to sign Fernando Llorente and not Jermain Defoe last summer.
By the look of things it seems like Spurs need another striking option to cover Harry Kane as Fernando Llorente continues to struggle following a £12 million move from Swansea City in the summer.
The Spanish striker was vilified by Tottenham fans once again on Tuesday after another profligate display in the 2-1 defeat at Leicester, meaning Llorente is yet to score in 16 appearances in all competitions.

He is looking more and more like a flop every time he plays for the North Londoners and it’s a valid question to ask whether Kane needs a better covering option in January.
Defoe, who netted 143 goals for Tottenham across two previous spells, has struggled for regular starts at Bournemouth following his Bosman move to the Cherries from Sunderland, starting six Premier League games and scoring once in 11 appearances overall.

Mauricio Pochettino passed up a possible chance to bring him back in the summer when he was free, and some of the club’s fanbase believe it was a mistake.
