Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe is back in the spotlight after earning a recall to the England squad.
Defoe is potentially in line to start against Germany this weekend, answering Gareth Southgate’s call in response to an injury crisis.
This comes amid a report in The Mirror that Defoe is considering quitting Sunderland at the end of the season, with the Black Cats appearing destined for relegation.
Defoe has given staying in the Premier League his best shot so far, scoring 14 goals in 28 games, more than half of his club’s 24 total goals.
One club crying out for him are former side Tottenham Hotspur, who have so far failed to land a viable alternative to top scorer Harry Kane.
Kane is into his second injury absence of the season, and it is surely a void Defoe would have no problem filling.

He turns 35 in October but would not be required to play every game at Spurs, instead sharing the load with Harry Kane and helping the first choice forward out.
With Champions League football likely to be on offer, it is hard to believe Defoe would turn his nose up at the chance to head back to his former club, and sign for a third time.
He is already the club’s leading goalscorer of all time in European competitions, a record he set back in 2013.
A move to Wembley is on the horizon, and having an experienced striker able to cope with the challenge that may bring would be ideal for Spurs.
